In a computer simulation study of generalised (112) stacking faults in a body centered cubic structure representing alpha -iron a stable fault has been found which may be regarded as a twin nucleus. The twin boundary has an unexpected but characteristic, symmetrical structure which is distinct from that associated with the conventional mirror image orientation relation.
