Abstract

We propose a generalized optimal velocity model to describe one-lane traffic flows. We carry out a weakly nonlinear analysis based on the technique of soliton perturbations and determine the selected propagating velocity, amplitude, and width of the interface between a jam state and a nonjam state. From the direct simulation of the model, we have confirmed the validity of our theoretical analysis.
