Purpose – presents an expanded change model. Design/methodology/approach – argues that in order to effectively change organizations more is needed than just change management; suggests that it will be necessary to determine what you are trying to change, what skills the recipients of the change will need for success in the changed organization and the long and the short-term organizations tools that will be necessary to support the change. Provides a brief history of strategy, skills and structures in the context of a change initiative and drawing on change management best practice, develops a seven-phase change management model. Describes how this model can help answer questions with regard to the issues of strategy, skills and structures. Originality/value – identifies the components of the seven phase change management model.ISSN: 1040-9602 Reference: 37AM695
