Abstract

The heat transfer of stratified melt in a massive steel vessel is investigated. Commercially available FLUENT 6.2 computer codes are employed. A steady-state problem in two-dimensional axisymmetric formulation is solved. The results of test calculations are given, including the calculation of heat transfer of steel melt heated from below by a preassigned heat flux. A numerical solution is obtained of the problem on stratified melt in self-consistent formulation. The value of steady heat flux to the vessel at typical values of input data is close to the critical value of heat flux under conditions of water boiling on a vertical wall.
