Abstract

The synthesis and IR spectroscopic and thermoanalytical study of cobalt(II) hydrogen salts with unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, such as maleic, itaconic, acetylenedicarboxylic, allylmalonic, glutaconic, and cis-,cis-muconic acids, were performed. Co3O4 polymer based nanocomposites were prepared through the thermal decomposition of the carboxylates synthesized. The size distribution of nanoparticles and their average diameter (d avg) were determined. The formation enthalpies of cobalt hydrogen carboxylates (ΔH op ) were calculated using the PM3 semi-empirical quantum-chemical method. A correlation between d avg and ΔH op was established. The magnetic characteristics of the synthesized composites, namely the maximum residual magnetization and coercive force, were determined. The critical diameter of nanoparticles for their transition from multidomain to one-domain particles was found to be 3.8 nm.
