Abstract

Ba(Zn1/3Ta2/3)O3 dielectric ceramics are known to be useful materials for microwave dielectric resonators. The lattice vibrations of Ba(ZnTa)O3, a crystal which has a pseudocubic unit cell with a hexagonal superstructure because Zn and Ta ions are in an ordered configuration, are investigated in this paper. Also, the symmetry properties of Ba(ZnTa)O3 and its ion displacements are examined. The far-infrared reflection spectra and Raman spectra of the ceramics are also presented and discussed in relation to the dielectric losses.
