ABSTRACT
82Animal rearing is constantly adapting to meet the ever-increasing efficiency and productive demands on the farm field. Moreover, the identification and tracking technologies play an important role in achieving these goals. Radio frequency identification (RFID) has been providing livestock producers with high-quality monitoring systems to deliver continuous control and visibility over automated operations for increased efficiency gains and improved production. This chapter covers a brief idea on livestock monitoring system development with RFID system, reviews the relevant literature, and summarizes current research. We propose a livestock monitoring device which is able to monitor the health status of the livestock using the android smartphone embedded together with the compact UHF RFID reader.
