ABSTRACT

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is already a massive imaginative step in the field in these days of urban planning. Since its development in the 1970s, GIS has had a major impact on geographical independent investigation and the usefulness of business in governance and the region. This chapter provides the introduction and describes GIS and its application in urban planning. It describes GIS in transportation analysis and planning which are more broadly used in the transportation planning associations, mainly among metropolitan transportation agencies. The chapter describes the application of GIS in waste management planning, regional planning and resource management. It deals with the application of GIS in domain monitoring and assessment. The chapter describes the GIS application in emergency management. It discusses the implication of GIS in the domain of education. The chapter presents the role of machine learning (ML) and cybersecurity in GIS.
