Abstract

A mathematical model for predicting the behavior of a dielectric liquid drop moving in a medium of another dielectric liquid in the presence of a uniform electric field has been developed. It is found that the terminal velocity of the drop is not strongly affected by the strength of electric field at small Reynolds numbers. A wake appears behind the drop due to the hybrid circulations induced by both the gravity and the electric force even at small Reynolds numbers and thus the drop is deformed asymmetrically about the equatorial plane.
