Abstract

Abstract:

The author systematically reviews articles published between 1989 and 2019 on using captioning services to support the academic success of deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students in higher education settings. Seven studies were selected and reviewed. The studies' findings showed that most DHH students benefited from captioning services. After the provision of captioning services, the performance of the students increased on posttests that measured their comprehension of content related to lectures. Further research should be conducted to verify the effectiveness of captioning services in supporting DHH students' academic success in higher education.
