Abstract
The influence of the concentration of purine (PU) on the corrosion of 304 austenitic stainless steel (SS) in chloride acid solutions was studied. The investigations involved electrochemical polarization methods and scanning electron microscopy. The inhibition efficiency increased with an increase in the concentration of PU. Tafel polarization study revealed that PU acted as a mixed-type inhibitor. The adsorption of PU has been found to occur on the surface of SS according to the Langmuir isotherm. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for SS corrosion and PU adsorption, respectively, were determined and discussed.
