Abstract
Learning in and for democracy is a central task of schools and is at the same time one of their greatest challenges. The article begins by staking out a position and offering a definition within the field of citizenship education. Subsequently, the article describes key insights from school and educational research on the challenges and success- factors of democratic school development. Finally, this contribution highlights that schools need to see themselves as emancipatory and participatory places of learning for democracy.
Zusammenfassung
Das Lernen in der und für die Demokratie ist eine zentrale Aufgabe der Schule und zählt gleichzeitig zu den größten Herausforderungen. Der Beitrag leitet mit einer Positions- und Begriffsbestimmung im Feld der Demokratiebildung ein. Daran anknüpfend werden wesentliche Erkenntnisse aus der Schul- und Bildungsforschung zu den Herausforderungen und Gelingensbedingungen demokratischer Schulentwicklung skizziert. Abschließend wird die Notwendigkeit eines emanzipatorischen und partizipativen Selbstverständnisses der Schule als Lernort der Demokratie skizziert.
