Abstract:

Development of titanium–nickel (Ti–Ni)–based and titanium– niobium (Ti–Nb)–based shape–memory/superelastic alloys is surveyed. Their basic characteristics are reviewed: e.g., the crystal structures of the parent and martensite phases, the recoverable strain associated with the martensitic transformation, orientation dependence of deformation behavior and cyclic deformation behavior.
