Abstract:
The effect of priming on the germination of two- and five- year old eggplant seeds was investigated.
Different concentrations of kinetin, GA3, KNO3 and PEG (Polyethylene glycol - 6000) were used.
GA3 and KNO3 treatments, in particular, influenced the germination and rate of germination significantly with respect to the control.
Differences between these two treatments were not significant insofar as the concentrations of PEG. Kinetin and PEG treatments did not affect germination of aged seeds positively.
Despite the promising effect of KNO3 and GA3 on germination, they had no significant effect on either shoot or root growth, nor did they significant effect seedling dry weight.
