This paper proposes a joint framework for relating urban morphology and design to each other, which can help to explain how and why these can be considered as distinct yet connected. The paper locates urban morphology and urban design – as products and processes – within a framework based on the distinction between the physical fabric and the abstract domain, in relation to time order. This helps clarify and explain the nature and signi ficance of the essential relationship between urban morphology and design. The paper concludes with suggestions for the be er integration of morphology and design.
