Strip crown control mechanism for the application of a hot tandem mill of six-high mills with intermediate roll shift was investigated by a full-scale pilot mill. Following results were obtained:
(1) A six-high mill has a more extensive strip crown control capability than a conventional four-high mill.
(2) The quantitative relationship between the changes in strip crown and strip shape were obtained.
(3) The relationship between the number of six-high mills in a tandem mill and the range of strip crown control were obtained.
(4) Three or four six-high mills in the delivery side of finishing trains is practically enough for better crown control.
