Effect of the Size of Nanoparticles on Temperatures of Melting

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

An equation is obtained for the dependence of temperatures of melting on the size of spherical nanoparticles with allowance for the effect it has on surface tension. The equation transforms into the Gibbs–Thomson equation for large dispersed particles. Numerical calculations are presented for tin nanoparticles. The results from calculations are consistent with the most reliable experimental data.
