Abstract

In this study, the machinability 2024Al/Al2O3 particle composite was investigated in terms of tool wear, tool life and surface roughness by turning process with TiN (K10) coated and HX uncoated carbide tools at different cutting conditions. The test results showed that tool life decreased with increasing the cutting speed for both cutting tools and tool life of TiN (K10) tool was significantly longer than that of HX tool. It was observed that the major wear forms of the tools were the combination of rounding of nose and flank wear. The optimum surface roughness was obtained at the cutting speed of 160 m min−1.
