The purpose of this paper is to compare properties of two different concepts of measuring method for multidirectional evaluation of plastic deformations and residual stress in magnetic materials. The first method utilizes two transducers with different configurations of magnetizing sections. The transducers allow magnetizing tested material with DC field in two perpendicular directions. The second method uses transducer with rotational AC magnetic field to magnetize the object and two sensitivity axes. Giant magneto-resistive (GMR) and anisotropic magneto-resistive (AMR) sensors were used as pick-up elements. The performance of both systems was verified using stress and fatigue loaded steel samples.
