The Dialectics of Rationalization: An Interview with Jürgen Habermas

Abstract

Honneth: “To begin with, I shall summarize the topics we would like to address: First, we want to concentrate on your position within the tradition of critical theory in order to, second, examine its deficiencies as you see them. The third and more systematic theme concerns the basic features of your theory, as developed in your latest book. I'm sure that will become very difficult once we have the comprehensive manuscript before us. In the fourth part our interest switches to the application of the theory to present-day political problems and conflicts. Finally, we'll want to address questions such as science as a vocation, the turning of Marxism and social theory into academic disciplines, and problems of modes of production of critical theory.
