ABSTRACT

This chapter compares climate change debates in Europe and the United States, examining the ways in which climate change skeptics and deniers question climate science and have sought to advance their political agenda. The agreement, however, masks a continued resistance to climate action from a vocal minority of actors in the United States and an emerging far-right movement in Europe. Climate change skepticism and climate change denial continue to slow and in some cases block progress on climate change at the local, national, and international levels. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change includes many of the world’s leading climate experts and draws on the work of others. The Tea Party has been a leading voice of the anti-environmental, anti-climate change movement. Public opinion polls suggest that those who believe that climate change is occurring are more likely to have higher levels of education.
