The usual type of instrument used for the measurement of power is the electrodynamic wattmeter (see also chapter 8 of ElectricalPrinciples II). The instrument has two coils, namely a current coil and a potential coil (see figure 9.1). The current coil has markings M (mains) and L (load), and the potential coil has markings V + and V; terminal V + should normally be connected either to M or to L.
