Abstract

Mesoporous Bi2WO6 sheets with excellent photocatalytic performance are synthesized by a sol–gel freeze-drying method. It results in an individual mesoporous sheet structure with high surface-to-volume ratio. Meanwhile, the mesoporous Bi2WO6 sheets with high specific surface area of 36.7 m2 g−1 and pore volume of 0.07 cm3 g−1, which can give more molecule diffusion paths and reaction active sites during photocatalysis reaction. The mesoporous Bi2WO6 sheets display more excellent photocatalysis performance for degradation of Rhodamine B than that of common Bi2WO6 nanoparticles. The formation mechanism of the sheet material is discussed in detail. Furthermore, Bi2MoO6 and BiVO4 porous sheets have also been successfully prepared by the similar method. In view of its simple synthesis and predomination experimental results, this method may be widely applied to prepare for other two dimensional materials.
