The banking market is going through a period of rapid change, partly as a result of the use of information technologies and partly through the growing number of new service providers, whose entry into the market is facilitated by the availability of direct marketing instruments such as telephone and on-line banking. Increasingly, foreign suppliers of financial services are using aggressive marketing to reach customers who have high expections.The key to success is to have all employees gear their activities to the interests and requirements of the customer. To meet future requirements HYPO-BANK has developed training programs to place employee communication on a systematic and professional level and use it as an instrument of quality control. This will ensure that quality targets, i.e. corporate targets, are met.At HYPO-BANK, communication is the task of every employee. It is also defined as a management task. It is up to management to eliminate discrepancies between corporate objectives and the personal goals of individual employees. Modern managerial staff have to create optimum conditions for employees to organize their own work. In order to support the “new” managers in their role of coach, the Hypo-Bank created a number of new instruments for personnel management which enable the employees to be part of a “learning company”.The key to learning is communication in all its various forms. The speed and durability of the learning processes are determined by the openness and frankness of inter-personal contacts. A company can only survive by finding the right compromise between continuity and change. Every period and every enterprise needs its pioneers, just as it needs its conserving forces. Innovation is the art of striking a balance between them.
