Feasibility Study for Hyperloop Commissioned
Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency and the Illinois Department of Transportation have now signed an official agreement to work together. “We are excited to bring the first real public-private partnership to bring Hyperloop travel to the US,” said HTT CEO Dirk Ahlborn. Consulting engineers are now to prepare a feasibility study for the consortium for a Hyperloop link between Cleveland and Chicago.
Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk showcased the new mobility concept Hyperloop in 2013. In this high-speed transport system of the future, electrically driven pods are designed to move in steel tubes that are under low vacuum. These tubes should connect large regions with each other on loop routes. Since travel speeds of more than 1,000 km/h are planned, the Hyperloop would allow faster and more efficient travel compared to today. The presentation of the first Hyperloop pod is scheduled for early 2018. The pod, which weighs 20 tonnes and is 30 metres long, is to be showcased at the French research centre in Toulouse after more than three years of development.
