Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a chronic and irreversible eye disease. It causes damage to the retina by accumulation of extracellular materials, which leads to loss of visual acuity. One of the most common signs of AMD is the appearance of drusen, yellowish irregular nodules. Because of its irreversible character, a timely diagnosis is important for early treatment. The development of new ophthalmic diagnostic methods implies appropriate knowledge concerning the mode of propagation of light in the eye. In this work, it was developed the necessary simulation tools to study the mechanisms of the interaction of optical light with the retina. To accomplish this goal it was used the Monte Carlo (MC) simulation technique.
