BMW Motorrad unveils the new version of the S 1000 RR superbike, which was first presented in 2008. As well as increased engine power and an improved torque, this model is also lighter.

With its re-engineered engine, the BMW S 1000 RR superbike achieves 152 kilowatts (207 hp) and now weighs 197 kilos. With the M package, this is further reduced to 193.5 kilos. The bike is further enhanced by assistance systems such as traction and wheelie control, ABS, hill start control and improved equipment with LED headlights and large TFT display. The new generation BMW S 1000 RR will be presented at the Eicma Motorcycle Show in Milan.

The reduced weight is also evident in the redesigned four-cylinder engine with shift cam technology, which is now four kilos lighter. In addition, the geometry of the cylinder head inlet and exhaust channels has been optimised. The maximum torque of 113 Nm is reached at 11,000 rpm. Driveability has been improved by increased torque in the lower and medium speed ranges. The new Flexframe enhances both ergonomics and power transmission. The new exhaust system is 1.3 kilos lighter.

BMW S 1000 RR with improved manageability

The modified chassis with new Full Floater Pro kinematics in the rear wheel suspension weighs 300 grammes less, and improves handling and increases traction for more dynamic control. The Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) suspension system is available as an option. The S 1000 RR comes with four driving modes, "Rain", "Road", "Dynamic" and "Race".

Bikers wishing to manage control functions such as Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS, wheelie recognition and the right acceleration curve (torque adaptation) or engine brake themselves can order the optional "Pro driving modes" package, which also includes launch control. Clutchless gear shifting is available as standard in the shape of the Gear Shift Assist Pro system. A large 6.5-inch TFT display offers the rider four different display options for everyday trips and the racetrack.
