The TELENET network is presented. The expanded terminal support is based on the CCITT approved ×25 interface. All necessary protocol conversion is performed by a dedicated multi-microprocessor. The long distance communication takes place via satellites. The impact of higher transmission rate and larger delay is discussed. The packet radio facilities and local area bus systems for the local distribution of traffic are introduced. The electronic mail service TELEMAIL is described as an application of TELENET.
