Daimler is preparing for the production of electric cars and has purchased battery cells with a value of more than 20 billion euros. According to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, the group is "making good progress with the move toward an electric future." A total of 130 electrified car variants are planned by 2022. These will be accompanied by electric vans, buses, and trucks. With extensive orders already placed for battery cells through to 2030, Daimler is "ensuring that the global battery production network is supplied now and in the future using the latest technologies," said Wilko Stark, who was appointed member of the divisional board of Mercedes-Benz Cars with responsibility for procurement and supplier quality in October 2018.
