Abstract
Building on the previous chapters, particularly the unique approach to causation in Chapter 1, and the nature of international order in Chapter 3, this chapter presents a discussion of international norms and how they can be challenged and changed.It also incorporates an outline of the types of agency that China could exhibit in seeking to produce different types of normative change and the tools that could be used. For example, China could act as a norm entrepreneur, a persistent objector or an ad hoc objector, to either prevent the continued acceptance of liberal norms or present alternatives.The chapter conclusion presents a number of options and mechanisms that China could use in presenting a challenge to international order.
