Summary

This expository chapter deals with the basic mathematical models which arise in some electrochemical processes pertaining to the galvanic corrosion phenomena. The elementary model discussed is sufficient as a preliminary tool in designing cathodic protection systems and their reverse effect, namely, electroplating. After the model is introduced, different numerical approaches for obtaining an approximate solution are discussed. The mathematical content is deliberately kept at the elementary level for it to be accessible to general readers. The discussion is limited to galvanic aqueous corrosion and therefore atmospheric factors are ignored.
