Companies face new challenges and corporate governance research has expanded to encompass more than just the internal dynamics and mechanisms between owners and managers. Nevertheless, there exist a scarcity of research that specifically examines the relationship between structure of CEO compensation and corporate payout policy, including both equity-based and debt-like compensation. This paper aimed to address this gap by investigating the influence of CEO compensation structure on corporate payout policy. The study focused on a subset of over 1,700 firms from the U.S. market. Regression analyses were employed to find the correlations between CEO compensation structure and corporate payout policy. Findings indicate that total CEO compensation has a positive influence on share repurchases as well as cash dividends. Furthermore, equity-based compensation is linked with increasing share buybacks. Additionally, corporate with more free cash flow and cash tend to pay share repurchases as well as cash dividends, whereas investment opportunities only have a positive impact on share repurchases. On the contrary, it was found that this debt-like compensation and company size have little influence on corporate payout policy. Study’s findings enhance our understanding of relationship between CEO compensation structure and corporate payout policy,

Meta-Analysis of the Impact of Employees’ Working Relations on Creating and Retaining Trust

The main aim of this paper is to Meta-analyse the literature on the impact of employees’ working relations in creating, maintaining and retaining trust. It is, thereby, the central work of this paper to measure the impact of trust variables, namely social system elements (SSEs), factors of trustworthiness (FoTs) and third-party gossip (TPG) on employee trust at the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC). A meta-analysis was conducted, as it offers the ability to critically assess and statistically aggregate the findings of related investigations. From a theoretical perspective, social exchange theory (SET) was used as a mediator of the relationship between employee working relation (SEEs, FoTs and TPG) and trust. In this regard, meta-analysis focuses on the three SSEs namely; employee involvement (EI), organisational justice (OJ), and corporate social responsibility (CSR), and three FoTs (benevolence, integrity and ability). More than 100 studies from 1995 to 2021 were included in the meta-analysis, as two databases were used including Google Scholar and Scopus. The meta-analysis results revealed different perspectives that contributed to overall trust development in light of SSEs, FoTs and TPG relations. In addition, the results found that FoTs promotes interpersonal trust while SSEs encourage trust at the organisational level. As the FoTs reflects interpersonal trust, SSEs indicate the formation of trust at the organisational level, revealing the importance of policies and regulations in BOC. The results reached that, TPG can be considered as an undermining social factor of employee trust in BOC because its impact can create distrust that can adversely affect the productive behavior of employees. This paper is unique and distinctive as it brings all employee working relation variables (SSEs, FoTs, and TPG) together in a single study. The comprehensiveness of the coverage focusing on the impact of each of these variables and their interrelationships contributes more and clearer insights and knowledge in the study of employee trust and enriches the trust literature for researchers. Such findings enrich the trust literature that can prove beneficial to researchers and scholars in the field in terms of juxtaposing the type of trust.

Evolving the Role of Gender Within the DEI Debate—Refocusing the Discussion on Learning Versatility in an Ever-Changing World

Gender studies show distinct periods. In the 1970s, there was an initial acknowledgement of the plight of women. In the 1980s, the literature on the role of women in business focused on the identification of barriers. Increasing diversity, equity and inclusion was inhibited by factors explored in conceptual as well as empirical research. In the 1990s, this view and the available body of knowledge on such barriers became more sophisticated. In the early 2000s, research progressed from gender differences to dissimilarity and diversity. With the help of an in-depth literature review and empirical study, we aim to advance the gender debate within the larger context of diversity, equity, and inclusion and zoom in on learning versatility. Conceived as a study pursuing parallel test reliability, the article presents two studies, one focusing on BBA and one focusing on MBA students. As part of a quantitative study, we measured the learning versatility of male and female business students and its impact on learning outcomes. The study suggests enriching the gender debate in business studies with considerations of how flexible female and male students are in terms of their learning styles. This learning style versatility represents a useful treat in today's business schools with faculty members exposing students to different learning stimuli and testing across courses. Learning versatility also helps graduates in business environments characterized by rapid and fundamental changes. The study suggests that female graduates offer companies the advantage of better learning skills. This aspect extends the gender debate and can lay the foundation for further progress in terms of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Formation of the Economic Mechanism of Nature Management in the Conditions of New Global Environmental Architectonics

The purpose of the article is to develop priority directions for the formation of an economic mechanism for nature management, taking into account the set of requirements set forth by the new global environmental architectonics. It is substantiated that the new global environmental architectonics is based on the following: The Global Sustainable Development Goals approved by the United Nations; the New Climate Agreement approved in Glasgow (UK); and the European Union's carbon adjustment of imports of third-country products with a view to achieving carbon neutrality indicators on the European continent. The relevance of this research topic stems from the need to identify the determining influence of the basic provisions of international environmental conventions on the specification of methods, instruments and levers of the domestic economic mechanism of environmental management. It is established that the transformation of the national economic mechanism of environmental management in the short and medium term should be determined to the greatest extent by the Global Sustainable Development Goals, which relate to clean water and adequate sanitation, renewable energy, sustainable development of cities and communities, responsible consumption, climate change, and the conservation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. It is substantiated that the basic provisions of the New Climate Agreement should correlate with the priorities for modernizing fiscal regulation of environmental management in terms of stimulating the processes of minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. It is proved that in order to minimize the losses of domestic producers exporting products to the European Union because of the application of the adjustment mechanism border carbon from 2023, it is necessary to apply a set of preventive measures, in particular by stimulating the implementation of low-carbon development projects.

Stakeholder Approach in Gas Consumption as a Result of Behavioral Economics Influence

This article will establish the necessity of ensuring clarity in the formation of natural gas supply tariffs within the context of providing informational and social security to society. A crucial element of efficient gas supply lies in well-established collaboration with its stakeholders, which, concurrently, is the most complex and unpredictable due to stakeholders’ insufficient understanding of the natural gas tariff formation process. Based on an analysis of the trending structural changes among stakeholders in the gas supply sector, key stakeholders in gas supply were identified. To facilitate effective communication with these key stakeholders in the context of enhancing awareness of the tariff-setting process and instilling an understanding of the importance of promoting sustainable development and environmental preservation, we have developed methods of education (proposing directions for the development of educational methods) for gas supply stakeholders. Among these, the following have been identified as key directions: expert education, informational resources, practical training, dialogue and consultation, monitoring and evaluation, international knowledge exchange. Such directions will contribute to the enlightenment of stakeholders and lead to the creation of a more optimized and transparent tariff formation process in the gas supply sector. Informing residential consumers about the tariff-setting process as key stakeholders in the gas supply sector will enhance the social security of individuals.

Application of Artificial Intelligence in Planning the Architecture of Gas Networks in the Context of Sustainable Development

Today’s sustainable development of society is a priority development of mankind. It is based on balancing the mankind modern needs and protecting the interests of future generations. To balance the relationship between nature and humanity, it is necessary to ensure systematic coordination between the social, environmental and economic components, which is the main challenge in the management process. A critical analysis of various concepts to define the notion of “sustainable development” and its definitive characteristics has led to the following conclusion: there is no uniform definition as this concept is currently expanding its scope as well as undergoing constant refinement and identification of additional characteristics. In particular, it should be noted that the problem area in the context of the sustainable development concept is the fuel and energy complex in general. The study focuses on one of the parts of the oil and gas complex—its transport infrastructure. The state of the Ukrainian economy as a whole depends on its condition and use efficiency. In today’s political and economic conditions, Ukraine is faced with the task of maintaining optimal performance of the main gas pipeline system, which is one of the most influential and complex in the world. The study has shown that the impact factors on production potential of gas transmission system (GTS) companies are differentiated into endogenous and exogenous. The influence direction of the selected factors has also been determined. In addition, the study has conducted the research on the GTS potential, identified its main characteristics, such as integrity, interconnection and interaction of elements, complexity, ability to develop, communication, hierarchy. The analysis of the GTS operating modes has carried out and their influence on the reliability of this system has been determined. The export potential optimization problem has been pointed out. It consists in finding such (optimal) volume of transported gas at which the maximum profit with the minimum expenses will be received. The mathematical model has been developed. It has been established that the use efficiency assessment of export potential is carried out according to the following algorithm and includes the following assessment elements: production potential: technical, technological innovation and investment; intellectual (personnel); marketing; synergetic assessment of the export potential of the gas transmission system on the basis of integrated assessments of the economic potential of the enterprise. Based on theoretical and practical research, a system for assessing the economic efficiency of pipeline transportation of natural gas has been built. The system is aimed at the architecture optimization of the Ukraine’s gas transmission system and will allow to quickly influence and respond to negative changes in the production process, render adequate management decisions and ensure the GTS sustainable development.

Beyond Claims: CSR Reports, ESG Initiatives, and the Consequences of Impressions Management; Empirical Analysis

This paper evaluates the extent of Vale Co.’s utilization of impression management practices in its reports, including CSR reports and integrated reports. The emphasis is specifically on periods before, during, and after two dam collapse crises. The study objectives encompass a thorough analysis of both the quantity and quality of CSR disclosures within the context of Vale. Based on an empirical study of the Vale company’s engagement in dam failures in Brazil in 2015 and 2019, the authors plan to carry out a content analysis covering a nine-year timeframe from 2013 to 2021. This analysis utilizes the Gunning FOG Index and NVivo Software to examine CSR reports, integrated reports, reputable newspaper articles, and social media content. The goal is to evaluate the extent of disclosure, both in terms of quantity and quality, prior to, during, and following the incident involving the collapse of the iron ore mine and the construction of a waste-holding dam. Findings suggest that when analyzing Vale’s CSR reports, sentiment analysis generally reveals a neutral tone. This contrasts with the largely negative feelings observed in the extensive newspaper coverage of dam collapse situations, which were analyzed using the NVIVO software program. Additionally, consistently higher Gunning Fog Scores show that the CSR reports have a high level of linguistic and conceptual complexity, as shown by continuously elevated Gunning Fog Scores. This might potentially hinder the ease of understanding and the clarity of the information provided. Our study places significant emphasis on the significance of clarity to ensure stakeholder comprehension and engagement. Research implications: The research highlights the importance of understanding the neutral tone in Vale’s CSR reports compared to negative media coverage of dam collapses. This suggests a need to address potential mismatches in narrative portrayal. Moreover, the complexity of language and content in CSR reports underscores barriers to accessibility and transparency, calling for clearer communication strategies. Ultimately, enhancing clarity in CSR reporting is essential for effective stakeholder engagement and alignment with external perceptions. Originality/value: The uniqueness of this study consists in its investigation of the influence of impression management strategies on corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, as well as the comparison of conflicting viewpoints expressed in respected newspapers concerning dam failures. Based on a content analysis case study spanning nine years (2013–2021) of Brazil’s Vale dam breach company, our research juxtaposes the content analysis of newspaper articles and social media with Vale’s CSR reports. This comparative study focuses on the time periods preceding, during, and following two instances of dam collapse events, with the purpose of fulfilling our research objectives.

AR-Based e-Learning Systems in Developing Nations: A Policy Perspective

The pandemic spurred e-learning innovations, which allow students to pursue any course without being restricted to traditional classroom settings. Rural digitalisation in developing nations has accelerated, but e-learning faces obstacles like poor infrastructure, slow internet, and inadequate faculty training. It is inferred from the previous studies that many pre-existing flaws in prevalent e-learning systems need to be improved by enhancing the interaction between faculty and students, incorporating active learning techniques, and adding training modules for faculty. Based on interviews, surveys and on-site observations, an integrated framework for e-learning System (iFELS) is proposed, which focuses on developing policy guidelines and an e-learning app using augmented reality (AR) for rural areas. Utilising the framework, a prototype app and preliminary policy guidelines are designed to make e-learning accessible and reliable. These guidelines address the fundamental underlying causes of ineffective e-learning while ensuring modularity, replicability, and scalability. The Government will fetch the data from the proposed e-learning platform to monitor guideline implementation. AR features and gamification elements have been incorporated into the proposed platform to enhance user engagement, facilitating continuous, practical, and interactive learning.

Biogas Quality Monitoring and Indication System

Ever-increasing demand for energy requirements has led to the need to find unconventional sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, atomic energy, biogas, etc. Biogas is one of the most common sources of energy. It is produced through the anaerobic digestion of biological waste materials like agriculture waste, food waste, sewage sludge, and energy crops. Biogas is a mixture of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O), etc. Anaerobic digestion is a process in which the bacteria breaks down the complex organic materials, producing biogas and fertilizer as by-products. Biogas has versatile applications as a renewable energy resource, serving as a fuel for biogas stoves and providing hot water when used in boilers. Additionally, biogas offers environmental advantages, as the organic materials used in its production are disposable, making it a sustainable energy source. Furthermore, biogas contributes to the mitigation of methane gas emissions, a significant factor in global warming. In this work, we are trying to measure the amount of various gasses present in biogas and with the help of the proportion of gas in Biogas, we will calculate the quality of it.

Demystifying Tech-Related Investor-State Arbitration: Understanding the Role of the FET Clause

Due to the disruptive innovations the tech sector offers—possibly more than any other sector—companies have recently experienced rising regulatory friction with foreign governments. International regulations can sometimes be capricious, unfair, and designed to elicit compromises. International investment law and arbitration can act as a beneficial sword and shield in these situations to defend IT enterprises. While the tech sector has never been one to rely on investor-state arbitration, circumstances are changing. This paper analyses the role of the fair and equitable clause in investor-state disputes in the tech sector, following the intersection between the private tech sector and the host states through an investment agreement regime. The paper also brings out operational difficulties in implementation of the FET clause and the criticisms thereof. Moving on, the paper discusses the limited scope of the FET clause by citing various bilateral and multilateral investment treaties. The paper finally concludes that tech-related investor-state disputes is still an upcoming area of arbitration requiring time to undergo reforms; thus, it is suggested that the FET clause be given a wider interpretation to ensure operational efficiency.

Impact of IFRS and Board of Directors on the Value Relevance of Accounting Information—Empirical Study

This study seeks to examine the effect of international financial reporting standards and board directors’ characteristics on the value relevance. The analysis was conducted using financial reports from a selected group of companies that are listed on the Iraqi Stock Exchange. It analyzed data from 10 banks during the period of 2012–2017 in order to accomplish the research objective. To test the hypothesis, both main and subsidiary hypotheses were utilized. The findings indicated a strong correlation between the equity's book value and its valuation, suggesting that value relevance exists in both individual and interactive analysis models. Regarding earnings, it seems that they are not significantly connected to the market value of the shares. However, the adoption of IFRS resulted in a considerable decrease in the value relevance during the period before and after its implementation. In terms of the board of directors’ characteristics, it was discovered that both the size and ownership of the board have an impact on value relevance. However, when interacting with IFRS, there was no notable effect. The research suggests that adhering to IFRS is essential due to their ability to align with the value that has demonstrated its efficacy across diverse global contexts.

Green Knowledge Management: Research Propositions and Future Directions

Green knowledge management (GKM) has received significant attention among practitioners and scholars, but remains underdeveloped and understudied, particularly in identifying its antecedents and outcomes. This scarcity could be attributed to its novelty as a managerial phenomenon, and to the fact that its intersection with the sustainability field remains very limited and fragmentary. Hence, our current conceptual paper aims to contribute to enriching the extant literature on GKM by developing a conceptual model including its antecedents, consequences, mediators, and moderators and proposing new research propositions. Our conceptual framework has drawn on literature from fields that have been identified through a search of scholarly literature mainly accessible through electronic databases (e.g. Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar). The initial literature review which started with an investigation of publications addressing the concept of GKM, was followed by a process of analysis and synthesis. This research contributes to extant knowledge by delimiting, detailing, charting, describing, or depicting GKM and its relationship to other entities. Hence, new and unpublished research propositions are proposed besides existing ones in the literature.

Leapfrog Opportunities and Digitalization in Empowering Economic Development of Women

Economic empowerment of women is becoming more widely acknowledged as a means of achieving economic growth, poverty alleviation, women’s rights, and other development objectives related to welfare, health, and education. When employment in the agricultural sector is stagnant, micro enterprises play a critical role in uplifting the economic status of women by giving highly qualified and less qualified women jobs that contribute to their overall development and help them realize their inherent capacity to work in the non-agricultural sector. Since women make up over half of India's population, it stands to reason that women's empowerment and development go hand in hand. Leapfrogging is a development paradigm that has gained popularity recently in relation to sustainable development for underdeveloped countries. It advocates quickening growth by favouring better developed sectors and technologies over less established, less efficient, more expensive, or more polluting ones. The present study primarily looks at how leapfrog opportunities affect digital transformation, digitalization, and social networks. The variables taken into consideration in the study include leapfrog opportunities, digital literacy, social networks, digital transformation, digitalization, as well as economic empowerment of women.
