Load on nodes in ad-hoc networks appears in two major aspects: traffic and power consumption. Unbalanced traffic may lead to more delay, packet dropping and decreasing packet delivery ratio. Unbalanced energy consumption leads to node failure, network partitioning and decreases network lifetime and route reliability
.
In this paper, an efficient routing protocol known as PCRM (Packet Count based Routing Mechanism) is presented. It is created as an add-on to Qualnet 4.5. This is a modification to Dynamic Source Routing protocol (DSR) under ad-hoc networks. The proposed protocol finds the least used path for sending data packets rather than selecting minimum hop count as in DSR. The simulations are carried out in Qualnet 4.5 and the results are compared with DSR routing protocol.
