In Public Entrepreneurship, Citizenship, and Self-Governance, Paul Dragos Aligica presents a fresh look at the power of decentral, bottom-up governance structures. Aligica makes a compelling case for the ideal of “a system of governance centered on a normative individualist recognition of the primacy of citizens’ values” (p. 5). Rather than adopting the seeing-like-a-state perspective, Aligica advances a vision for understanding our social spheres by approaching them from a citizen’s perspective. To create this foundational work on self-governance, Aligca synthesizes the prior work on this topic by F.A. Hayek, James M. Buchanan, and, in particular, Elinor and Vincent Ostrom. …
