Daimler is preparing itself for the production of electric vehicles and in doing so has purchased more than 20 billion euros worth of battery cells. According to Dr. Dieter Zetschke, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, this is a continuation of the company's push of "a consistent transformation towards the electric future of our business". A total of 130 electrified car variants are planned by 2022, in addition to electric vans, buses and trucks. Wilko Stark, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Procurement and Supplier Quality says that the extensive orders for battery cells up to 2030 means that Daimler is able to ensure "the supply of the global battery production network both today and in the future with the latest technologies."
