BMW is expanding its battery production capacity in Germany and China. From mid-2021 onward, its Leipzig (Germany) plant will manufacture battery modules for high-voltage batteries on a large scale. "We are investing more than 100 million euros in battery module production facilities over an area that totals 10,000 m²," says Hans-Peter Kemser, Director of BMW Group Plant Leipzig. Preparations are also already under way at the Competence Center for E-Drive Production in Dingolfing (Germany), where battery production will be starting in the coming year. In China, BMW has opened another battery center at its site in Tiexi where more powerful batteries based on the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology are already being manufactured. This is in addition to the High-Voltage Battery Center that came into operation in 2017 in Shenyang. According to Milan Nedeljkovic´ , member of the Board of Management of BMW, it will result in the group's battery production in China more than doubling.
