I have always liked to read articles written by Peter Blau because of their clarity and Peter’s ability to present complex phenomena in an easily accessible form. The book lives up to this reviewer’s expectations. The same clear style is maintained throughout. This is not a very big volume, but it is the content that counts. The book starts with the definition of a tribosystem; it then follows with descriptions of different wear mechanisms and tools used in the analysis of worn surfaces and finishes with guidelines to solving wear problems. Throughout the text, the author shares his personal experience and expertise in analysing and solving numerous wear failures and this makes this book unique. Once the wear failure occurs, there is a problem that needs to be quickly solved. The author carefully guides the reader, explaining what methods to use to identify the type of wear and how to rectify the problem. …
