The emerging discussion on knowledge management during the last decade has led to a plethora of theories and models in the business literature. Despite these efforts, most companies do not make use of more than the half of the knowledge available to them (Bullinger, Wörner and Prieto 1998). The major reason given to support that argument is the lack of methods to identify and edit expert knowledge. The few methods used to utilize knowledge that do exist also tend to lack empirical validation (Easterby-Smith and Araujo 1999; Huysman 1999; Lähteenmäki, Toivonen and Mattila 2001).
