Potential unconventional natural gas resources such as shale gas are estimated to be of the same importance as well-known conventional gas reserves (Karacan and Okandan 2000). An increase in shale gas interest has led to the need for a deeper investigation of shale behaviour. Dark shales enriched in organic matter contain a potential accumulation of natural gas. The permeability of shales as well as their elastic and mechanical properties is the key factors to understanding and prediction of their behaviour (Britt and Schoeffler 2009; Josh et al. 2012). …
