The paper focuses on work and process safety in robot assisted welding operations and discusses technical means to ensure a safe and ergonomic human-robot-interaction with overlapping workspaces. It discusses the development of a multi-robot assistance system to reduce labour-intensive manual handling of heavy parts in welding of tubular and framework constructions. The research is part of the project "rorarob" [1],[2],[3] and is supported by a demonstrator at TU Dortmund University. Parts of the research are contemporaneous published in [4].
