Jaguar has presented its first all-electric model – the I-Pace concept car. The study is a precursor to the fiver-seater Jaguar I-Pace model; set to be presented as a production version this year and officially launched in 2018. The vehicle was designed right from scratch as an all-electric car. The electric motors fitted to the front and rear axles deliver combined output of 294 kW and 700 Nm of torque and the electric all-wheel drive distributes torque to both axles as needed. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around 4 s. Jaguar has not yet revealed the car's top speed. The drivetrain draws its power from a liquid-cooled 90 kWh lithium-ion battery, which slots into the underbody between the front and rear axles. The low installation location is intended to lower the vehicle's centre of gravity and its tendency to yaw. The aluminium battery housing, meanwhile, functions as an integral part of the body structure. Jaguar uses pouch or film cells due to their high energy density, excellent heat dissipation properties and space-saving design. The company claims that the e-vehicle has a range of over 500 km in the combined NEDC cycle with a single battery charge.
