Renault has announced the arrival of its battery-powered racing car, the Zoe e-Sport Concept. This concept car, which has been developed together with Renault Sport, has two electric motors that produce 340 kW and can accelerate from a standing start to 100 km/h in 3.2 s. The car bears only an external resemblance to the mass-produced Zoe model. The body is made entirely from carbon fibre and conceals a tubular steel chassis reinforced with Kevlar panels. This is based on the frame structures used in Renault Sport cars that compete in hill climbs and ice races. The two lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 40 kWh that provide the power are responsible for 450 kg of the car’s total kerb weight of 1400 kg. Drivers can adjust the energy output of the batteries to meet their needs. Four driving modes also allow drivers to control the power produced by the two electric motors, which means that they can adjust the balance between the maximum performance and the longest range and set the car up to suit a specific race circuit. As in Formula E, an air-and-water cooling system with a front-mounted radiator is used for the battery and control systems in the Zoe e-Sport Concept. …
