The Audi SQ5 SUV comes with a 3-l diesel engine which is accompanied by a mild hybrid system. The V6 TDI engine produces its peak power of 255 kW at 3950 rpm and maximum torque of 700 Nm between 2500 and 3100 rpm. The 48-V main vehicle electrical system supplies an Electric Powered Compressor (EPC), which is located in the intake air path downstream from the intercooler and close to the engine. It helps out the turbocharger in the low rev range up to 1650 rpm. If there is too little boost from the turbocharger, a 7-kW e-machine accelerates the compressor wheel to 65,000 rpm in roughly 300 ms and produces a relative boost pressure of 1.4 bar. The engine's crankcase and cylinder heads have their own cooling circuits. The flow of coolant is also directed to the oil cooler, the EPC, the Belt Starter Generator (BSG), and the turbocharger as required. Electricity is supplied by a 10-Ah lithium-ion battery under the luggage compartment floor. It is connected to the conventional 12-V electrical system via a DC/DC converter. The mild hybrid system can recover up to 12 kW of energy during deceleration using the BGS.
