Volkswagen has launched five hybrid variants of the eighth generation of the Golf - three with the 48-V mild-hybrid eTSI powertrain and two plug-in hybrids. The pure electric model has been replaced by the ID.3. The eTSI versions have a power output of 81, 96, and 110 kW respectively and are equipped with a belt starter generator and a 48-V lithium-ion battery. The two plug-in hybrid models come with a 13-kWh lithium-ion battery that has an electric range of around 60 km. The smaller plug-in hybrid produces 150 kW, while the sportier GTE delivers 180 kW. All the powertrains are turbocharged and come with a choice of two three- cylinder gasoline engines that produce 66 and 81 kW using the TSI Miller combustion process, two four-cylinder diesel engines with power outputs of 85 and 110 kW, and a natural gas variant that delivers 96 kW. A new feature of the diesel engines is a twin dosing system with two SCR catalytic converters that reduce NO_x emissions by up to 80 %.
