Audi is equipping the SQ5 with a modified 3.0-l V6 diesel engine. The TDI engine coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission delivers up to 251 kW at 3800 to 3950 rpm and 700 Nm maximum torque between 1750 and 3250 rpm. The pistons are now made of forged steel instead of aluminum, which reduces heat losses. A new piezo sensor monitors the solenoid valve fuel injectors to ensure precise closing of the needle. This allows up to eight injections per working cycle at a maximum of 2500 bar. The air-to-air intercooler in the bumper gives way to an indirect water-to-air cooler in the interior V of the engine, which is more powerful and can heat the intake air in cold conditions to reach the ideal combustion temperatures more quickly. From its predecessor, Audi has adopted the 48-V mild hybrid system with belt starter generator, an electrically driven compressor to support the turbocharger, lithium-ion battery and 48-/12-V voltage converter.
