Sometimes problems arise in high volume production with Q-switched lasers. In high speed resistor trimming, for instance, reasonable peak powers at 30 kHz repetition rate would be desirable in some cases. This can no longer be provided by means of a conventional TEMoo laser. To increase the peak power, the aperture is increased and one tries to work with a low order mode. The poorer beam quality does not usually present a problem. The poor and unpredictable pulse-to-pulse stability, however, does; see Fig. 1.
