This chapter considers the major challenges facing modern policing according to the sample of police officers interviewed in this research. These questions were asked over a four-year period of quite considerable political, social and economic change. The results of this analysis will therefore achieve two things. First, it will provide a valuable insight into the views of current serving officers (with varying years of experience) as to what they feel are the challenges facing police officers in a rapidly changing policing environment. Second, it will also provide some insight into the changing nature of the priorities of new police officers as they become slowly more integrated within the policing cultures.
