The manufacturing processes discussed so far have all been techniques for making changes to raw materials. Although these form the basis of manufacturing, which normally involves the production of goods in quantity, in practice they will only produce satisfactory products if they are performed in a controlled and consistent manner. There needs to be a means of ensuring that this consistency is maintained. The means is called quality control.
