Many drainage systems of the American Southwest contain streams characterised by intermittent rather than perennial (constant) flow. These streams are essential to the normal function of their ecosystems; yet, they have received less study than perennial streams . Within the watershed of the Upper Brazos River system of Texas, intermittent streams prevail, and within that part of the drainage system included in this study (the Hubbard Creek watershed) all streams are intermittent.
