The 16 chapters in the edited volume, Power, Politics and Paranoia (van Prooijen & van Lange, Editors) tie together three different content areas to reveal how research in these different areas can mirror and inform each other. The editors and authors address the validity of two observations often heard around dinner tables, written in newspaper articles and even observed during faculty meetings. On the one hand, does power corrupt (and absolute power corrupt absolutely, Lord Acton, 1972/1897)? On the other hand, are people unjustifiably paranoid about the degree to which the powerful conspire against them? The question is whether either of these observations is a reflection of people’s misperceptions or an indication that true political change is required. …
